The Medieval Harvest Intarsia Wood Inlay Mirror Frame
Inlaid into solid rosewood, a classical example of Intarsia or Wood Inlay, intricate medieval designs inspired by the Illuminated Manuscripts.
The many different woods show their natural colours and are handcut, and then inlayed. Faces and hands are Staghorn, engraved and rubbed in with black beeswax to allow for the finer detail.
The story starts on the narrow side of the frame with 'The Sun-Seed' flower followed by the 'The Orchard in Blossom' at the base. On the left shows 'The Gathering of Fruits' and at the top is 'The Harvest Celebration'.
The small 'Harvest' is asymmetric with a flower motif on the narrow side.
It was believed in Medieval times that when depicting a story on a page in a book of the illuminated manuscripts that the eye will voluntarily be attracted to the narrow side, the beginning of the story.
57x39cm / 23"x15"
The Medium and Large Harvest are both symmetric sizes;
98x72cm./38"x28"
80x60cm./32"x24"
The Intarsia wood inlay mirror frames are polished with a beeswax finish.
